THE STORY:

An Altar in the City

From the beginning, we believe God planted Tapestry LA Church in the heart of Los Angeles for a reason. This city, marked by beauty and brokenness, has always felt like holy ground to us.

Throughout Scripture, an altar was not first a structure. It was a place where heaven and earth met. A place where God’s people returned again and again to remember who He is, to encounter His presence, and to realign their lives with His purposes.

Our Place in the Heart of

Los Angeles

In the same way, we believe God has established Tapestry LA as an altar in the heart of the city, a community rooted in presence, wholeness, and mission. Downtown LA continually reminds us of our calling: to be a faithful, embodied witness of Jesus where pain and hope exist side by side.

A Home Where God’s Presence Forms a People

Since launching in 2014, this calling has been increasingly clear and has been articulated in our vision:

Inviting broken people
to be restored by Jesus
in the whole of life

Within these walls, we have witnessed people encountering the tangible presence of God and the broken finding profound healing and restoration. It has been a joy to see children and youth discipled in the way of Jesus. Our cell groups have blossomed into true spiritual families on mission.

This space has also served as a training ground where leaders are formed, sent, and multiplied. Our local and global partnerships continue to bear fruit for God’s Kingdom. God is on the move.

 a spiritual home

This building is more than a gathering space. It is a spiritual home. It is here that broken people are invited, restored, and formed into Holistic Missional Disciples.

Our faithful presence in downtown has become a sign of hope. A reminder that the Church is alive, rooted, and committed to this city.

THE VISION:

A Home for His Presence

From Tenants to Stewards

For years, we have faithfully stewarded this space as tenants. Now, we sense an invitation to become long-term stewards. We are launching a fundraising campaign to purchase our building so we can plant deeper roots in the city we love and the place God has entrusted to us.

It is a spiritual invitation.

We believe this is not simply a real estate decision.

An invitation for a young church to mature.

An invitation to practice sacrificial generosity.

An invitation to say, in faith: We are here to stay.

An invitation for a young
church to mature.

An invitation to practice
sacrificial generosity.

An invitation to say, in faith:
We are here to stay.

A Declaration
for Our Future

A Declaration
for Our Future

In Scripture, building an altar always marked a moment of commitment, of remembrance, obedience, and trust.

The Altar Campaign invites us into that same posture: choosing permanence, faithfulness, and investment over convenience or uncertainty.

This building has held countless sacred moments: prayers whispered, tears shed, lives surrendered, leaders formed. It has been a place where God has shaped us into a people marked by presence, wholeness, and mission.

The Altar Campaign is not simply about acquiring property.

It is a declaration.

Tapestry LA
is here to stay.

Here to serve.

Here to restore.

Here to be a faithful presence
in the heart
of Los Angeles,
for generations to come.

THE MOMENT:

Securing our Future

Why This Matters

For the first time in our eleven-year history, we have the opportunity to establish long-term roots in Los Angeles. This campaign is about more than stability.

It is about creating a permanent home where we can continue to make disciples, develop leaders, and bless future generations. A home where the work God has begun among us can deepen and mature.

Strategic Necessity

Our current lease allows the landlord to terminate our tenancy with just twelve months of notice, and they have already been exploring a sale. Relocating a church of our size in Los Angeles requires years of searching, zoning, and preparation. Remaining tenants leaves our future entirely vulnerable to the flow of the commercial real estate market.

Securing our home in this season is not just a practical step; it is a faithful response to God's leading. At this point in our journey as a church, a passive posture is no longer wise stewardship. This moment invites us to move forward with clarity, courage, and action.

Why This Building?

Nearly every alternative space in our area would require multi-million-dollar renovations, along with the burden of paying double rent during construction.

Staying here allows us to build on nearly a decade of God’s provision:

  • Deep investment in this space

  • Relationships with neighbors

  • Favor with the community

  • Predictable parking

  • Upgrades already within reach

A Commitment to Wise & Faithful Stewardship

This step is also a wise and strategic act of stewardship. Our projected mortgage would be comparable to our current rent. Instead of rent disappearing year after year, ownership allows us to:

  • Build equity and
long-term stability

  • Strengthen our
financial foundation

  • Free future resources
for mission

Over time, this stability will allow us to invest more deeply in raising up pastors, church planters, missionaries, and leaders for gospel renewal locally and globally.

THE PLAN:

Our Path Forward

A Home for the
Next Generation

In Scripture, altars marked moments of obedience. In this season, securing and shaping our permanent building is part of that obedience. Ownership allows us to finally begin dreaming and designing a space that fully serves God’s people and His purposes.

The architectural renderings depicted here are early concepts meant to spark our imagination. Rather than final blueprints, they serve as a visual brainstorm of what is possible in our future home. While the exact layouts and designs will naturally evolve during the official planning phases, the ministry priorities driving them will remain firmly in place.

Our goal is to optimize our footprint by strategically relocating ministries for better flow and efficiency. As we design this home, our core commitments include:

  • Expanded Education Spaces: Creating larger, dedicated environments for TapTots, TapKids, and TapYouth to be discipled in the way of Jesus.

  • Designed for Families: Implementing improved security and play areas for a welcoming environment.

  • More Room for Fellowship: Carving out open areas where our community can easily connect before and after gatherings.

  • Ministry Rooms: Dedicating spaces for prayer, counseling, discipleship, and equipping.

  • Worship Enhancements: Upgrading the sanctuary to foster deeper encounters with God's presence.

How Much Will It Cost?

The building is priced at $11 million.

Our campaign goal is

$4 million

From now until Q4 of 2028

Reaching this milestone allows us to serve two crucial purposes:

$3.3 Million: 30% down payment

We will finance the remaining balance through a long-term mortgage, carefully structured to keep our monthly payments comparable to our current rent.

$700,000

This covers essential renovations and upgrades, ensuring our space is equipped to serve our families and our mission.

This is a significant step.

And yet, we believe it is a wise and faith-filled one.

The Roadmap to $4 million

Equal sacrifice, not equal gifts

We are not asking everyone to give the same amount. We are asking everyone to seek the Lord. It will take a beautiful combination of hundreds of faithful, sacrificial contributions.

A collective effort

This will require more than 300 individuals and families stepping forward in faith. Every tier matters. Every gift carries weight. Every sacrifice becomes part of the foundation.

Your part to play

We invite you to prayerfully consider your two-year “over and above” commitment (2026–2028). Ask the Lord: What does obedience look like for our family in this season? Whatever your commitment is, it becomes a living stone in building this altar.

Giving Chart

While a $4 million goal is a bold vision, it is absolutely attainable when we move together as a church family. This giving chart is meant simply as a visual aid, helping us see how a large milestone is met through the faithful, combined steps of many individuals.

Reaching Our Goal:
How every pledge tier adds up to a combined $4 million.

Rethinking our Spending

Living in Los Angeles comes with what you might call a “convenience tax.” The daily cost of keeping up with the city’s pace. These expenses feel normal, necessary even. But this campaign invites us to examine them with intention.

In this season, consider where resources quietly drift toward temporary comforts. What might it look like to redirect a portion of that toward something eternal?

Not out of guilt,
but out of vision.

Examples many of us can relate to:

→ Premium coffee/matcha ($200/mo)
→ Impulse shopping routines ($250/mo)
→ Fast-casual work lunches ($400/mo)
→ Family takeout and delivery ($500/mo)

Small, consistent shifts over two years can become meaningful investments in a permanent spiritual home.

A Spiritual Invitation to Give

Throughout Scripture, God’s people responded to His faithfulness by building altars, tangible expressions of gratitude, trust, and surrender. This season invites us into that same posture. We give out of worship, recognizing what God has already done among us, and trusting Him completely with our future.

We are deeply grateful for you. This vision is grounded in prayer, unity, and discernment. Everyone has a special part to play through praying, giving, serving, and encouraging. We move forward together as a family on mission.

How We Build the Altar

A Two-Year Step of Faith

We hope this season will be a special expansion of your generosity that goes above and beyond your regular giving. While your tithes sustain our daily ministries and operations, this is a unique opportunity to invest specifically in our permanent home. You can fulfill this new commitment over a two-year period.

A Rhythm of Faithfulness

Building this home is a journey we will take together. Rather than a single contribution, we invite you to prayerfully consider a sustained, monthly commitment through the end of 2028. As you reflect on God's ongoing provision, ask Him how He is leading you to steward your current resources and future blessings for this vision.

Stepping Forward Together

To mark this spiritual milestone, we will gather our commitments during worship on two special Pledge Sundays: March 29 and April 12. Reflecting the very heart of this campaign, we will invite our church family to physically come forward to the altar to present their pledge cards as a unified act of worship, trust, and generosity.

FAQ

Giving and Financial Accountability

  • Making a pledge and organizing your contributions is quick and simple. Here are the different ways you can give:

Online Pledges: You can easily submit your pledge through Subsplash, our online giving platform. Just visit the Make a Pledge page and enter the total amount you wish to pledge at the top. Below that, you will have the option to either set up a scheduled, recurring gift or simply submit your pledge without scheduling a gift right away.

Large Gifts and Stock Donations: If you would like to make a larger one-time gift or donate stock, please reach out to our finance team directly at finance@tapestry.la. We will gladly provide you with wiring instructions or ACH details, whichever is most convenient for you.

  • We recognize that some may not be in a position to give beyond their current generosity toward the ongoing vision of Tapestry LA. That is completely okay. Your value in this community has never been and will never be measured by a financial contribution.

Our hope is that everyone would prayerfully consider how they might participate in this season. For some, that will be through giving. For others, it may be through prayer, encouragement, serving, or simply standing with us in faith.

  • Absolutely. Giving through appreciated assets (stocks, crypto) may provide tax advantages. We encourage you to speak with your tax advisor to explore the most beneficial option for your situation.

  • We understand how important financial accountability is to our church family. Throughout the year our Ad Hoc Finance Committee carefully reviews all budgets and expenditures. Each January, we openly share our full financial reports at the Churchwide Townhall. Reports are also available upon request and online at www.tapestry.la/annual-report

Our finance team and staff steward every dollar with prayerful diligence, ensuring that all resources are used wisely and transparently for the sake of God’s work through our church.

The Building & Future Growth

  • Yes, and that is a joyful sign of life. We’re already taking these steps:

    • Added a third service

    • Pursuing long-term leases with neighboring buildings

    • Exploring options to expand TapTots, TapKids, & TapYouth capacity

    • Creating new multipurpose spaces

These solutions allow us to grow while remaining rooted here.

  • We have already invested significantly in renovations to ensure the building is safe and structurally sound. Additionally, gifted architects in our congregation are helping us imagine ways to steward this space even more beautifully and efficiently.

Leadership & Contingencies

  • This direction emerged through prayerful discernment by Pastor Charles and our Ad Hoc Building Committee (AHBC), a team of elders in training, ministry leaders, and professionals with experience in finance, real estate, and operations formed two years ago to explore the best long-term home for our church family.

The AHBC carefully evaluated dozens of possibilities: leasing vs. owning, staying vs. relocating, older spaces vs. newer ones. The members serving faithfully on the AHBC are: Alex Oh, Ben Lee, Darren Kwong, Felipe Yang, Harry Yoon, Jane Oak, Jason Kim, Mike Kim, Peter Bae, and Sung Park.

  • We are grateful to partner with Greg Gibbs, a pastor and leading consultant with over 30 years of experience helping churches navigate campaigns with spiritual health, integrity, and clarity. Jonathan Kim, who is part of Greg’s team will also support our efforts.

  • Every step of generosity strengthens our foundation. Whatever amount is raised will meaningfully impact our future and expand our ministry possibilities moving forward. We will proceed prayerfully and responsibly, guided by the pledges we receive and a clear path developed by our finance team. Ultimately, our aim is faithfulness. We trust that God honors surrendered obedience and multiplies what we place in His hands.

  • While we are moving ahead with confidence and hope, we also hold this process with open hands. If circumstances shift, the AHBC will continue discerning and pursuing other viable opportunities that align with our mission and long-term health.

We are committed to wise stewardship, patient discernment, and faithful responsiveness to God’s leading, trusting that He will guide us according to His good and gracious purposes for us.

  • We are stepping into this building campaign with a lot of hope for the future, but we also want to be completely clear about how your gifts are protected. Should our doors ever close, the law requires our assets to be transferred to another non-profit with a similar mission. Our elders would carefully choose another congregation to inherit the building, ensuring the space continues to be a blessing to the city.
